Looks like two great matchups today at the World Cup. Team North America faces off against Sweden at 3:00pm est (12:00pm pst). This game is sure to feature a high level of speed and skill. Veterans Daniel and Henrik Sedin lead the always competitive Swedes while Canada will look to Conner McDavid and Jack Eichel among others to lead the way. Warhorse Henrik Lundqvist should start in goal for Sweden with John Gibson replacing an injured Matt Murray between the pipes for Canada.
I will call this one at 5-4 for Team North America in a game that may just be the best one of the tournament.
Team Canada with Cory Crawford in goal faces off against a surprising Team Europe at 8:00pm est (5:00pm pst). Claude Giroux may make his World Cup debut should Mike Babcock choose to rest a player that needs a day off. I am expecting a fairly high tempo game but not quite at the blazing pace I expect from todays early game. With both teams having secured entrance into the playoff round I would expect the intensity of the game to be less than usual.
I think Canada prevails in this one but Team Europe will keep it close. Call it 4-3 for Canada.
Two great matchups, 4 great teams. Buckle up, it’s going to be fun.
That’s how I see it, from the bleacher seats.
