World Cup 2016 – Europe vs Sweden

Gametime 1:00pm est (10:00am pst) at the ACC in Toronto.

It’s Team Europe ve Team Sweden in the second semi finals matchup. Winner goes on to face Canada in World Cup Final.

Sweden has a hot goalie in Henrik Lundqvist who to my surprise has been more than solid so far. The Sedin brothers will lead the offence with Filip Forsberg, Nick Backstrom and Louis Eriksson more than able to put pucks in the net. Erik Karlsson and Victor Hedman highlight a very talented Swedish defence. Sweden has impressed me with the crispness of their play. Excellent flow and their transition game is smooth as silk.

Team Europe, to the surprise of many including myself has risen from also ran status to legitimate contender. Led by Anze Kopitar and Marion Hossa two veterans that know what it takes to win. The suprising play of Leon Draisaitl has given the team additional scoring and depth. Matt Zucharello has had a very good tournament as well. Roman Josi and Zdeno Chara anchor a solid but not spectacular defence. Goaltender Jaroslav Halak hs stopped almost everything fired at him. Resembling the goalie that stole a playoff round from the Capitals Halak has made the saves when needed.

I think the overall depth of Team Sweden will give them the win today. A gallant effort from Team Europe but the lack of offensive weaponry brings their tournament to an end.

Enjoy the game everybody.

Final score, Sweden 4, Europe 2

Three Stars,

  1. Henrik Lundqvist
  2. Filip Forsberg
  3. Jaroslav Halak

Sweden advances to face Team Canada in the finals. Thats how I see it, from the bleacher seats.
