Eagles vs Detroit Lions. Sunday October 9th @ 1:00pm est (10:00 pst). Ford Field in Detroit.

Weather: Domed Stadium

All Time Record: 32 games (1 playoff) Eagles 16w 14l 2ties

Last Game: 2015 @ Detroit. Lions 45 Eagles 14.

The Philadelphia Eagles fresh off their bye week travel to Detroit to face the Lions in an NFC matchup. The Eagles will be looking to atone for last seasons Thanksgiving 45-14 blowout loss at Ford Field. The Lions fell last week in a close game to the Bears in Chcago 17-14. Philadelphia will be looking to hold onto its lead in the NFC East division with a win.

Will Carson Wentz continue his incredible run of play as a rookie? So far the number two pick has been lights out and seems to have a favorable matchup against the Detroit defensive unit. Having Zach Ertz and Ryan Mathews return to the lineup only adds bullets to the Eagles offensive weaponry. I would look for the Lions to try and find a way to get pressure on the young quarterback. For the Lions to succeed the pressure must come from the defensive line. Blitzing linebackers or safeties will only open up more passing options for the Eagles. If Detroit can pressure Wentz they may finally find a way to force the Eagles into turnovers. The Eagles will look to run the ball. Mathews, Sproles and rookie Wendell Smallwood give the Birds plenty of ground options. Short to medium range passes to Ertz and Jordan Matthews should free up the occassional long ball to either Nelson Algohor Dorial Green-Beckham.

The Lions at 1-3 cannot afford another loss at this point in the season. With Minnesota off and running and the Packers already in front of them another loss would be a huge blow to the Detroit season. I would look for Matthew Stafford to try and get the ball to Golden Tate as often as possible. Detroit is going to have to find a way for their battered backfield to rush the ball. Falling behind and beling forced to pass will allow th Eagles defence to rush and blitz Stafford into oblivion. Philadelphias defence has been beyond good so far, giving up on average 9 points a game. I don’t see the Lions racking up much more than that without a great special teams performance.

The Wentz magical rookie tour continues as the Eagles avenge last years blowout loss.

Prediction: Eagles 31, Lions – 13

At least that’s how I see it, from the bleacher seats.
